Hi. My name is Kristina and I am going to lead the discussion of "The Passion of Artemisia" by Susan Vreeland. We have the entire month of March to talk about this book. Do you have any general impressions so far? What do you think of her writing style? Had you heard of the real Artemisia Gentileschi before this book?

When I read this book, I had no idea that it was based on a real person. I wonder how much of the story was fiction and how much was real? Bob
I had heard of her, but didn't know anything about her work or life. I found this to be an interesting subject, but I wasn't totally drawn in by the author's writing style. What I did enjoy was the way that Artemisia saw everything in terms of paint colors.
What about the author's writing style failed to draw you in?

Hmm. Not sure really. Maybe I didn't feel any real connection with the characters. The author seemed to bring some distance in between the characters and the reader. Like she didn't really like the characters herself. The character I felt had the most sympathy was Graziela.
