"In the Time of the Butterflies" by Julia Alvarez
Hello, everyone. Welcome to the online book discussion for Julia Alvarez's "In the Time of the Butterflies." First question to get things started is, what is your reaction to the book?
I'm just starting to read it -- haven't gotten very far. I generally don't go for this sort of literate fiction (I tend to like fantasy and cozy mysteries) but I knew of the author's well-respected reputation and the title kind of caught my fancy. And reading the very first page drew me immediately into the story and I didn't want to put it down.
This book has certainly piqued my interest in the history of the Dominican Republic. I find myself going to Wikipedia to find out more about Trujillos's regime.
