I read this book several years ago and found it very moving. I understand that the Mirabal sisters are revered in Latin America but I had never heard of them until I read this book--always good to have my horizons expanded.
Did you know Julia Alvarez lived in C-U for a while several years ago?

I didn't know that she had lived in CU.
I found it interesting that the Mirabals were most heroic to me not when they were planning revolution or even when they were facing the hardships of prison, but when they had been released from prison and were faced with the fact that they were becoming symbols for their countrymen. And that fact, more than any, probably incited their murder.
Such a good book. I've been recommending it to everybody.
